Member Meeting January 6, 2020

MEMBER MEETING OF NOVEMBER 4, 2019

Meeting starts at 6:58 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge were recited.

Board members present were President Tom Gregory, Vice President Don Collins, Membership Director John Delaney, Treasurer Dave Carlisle, Publicity Director Brian Dawson, Building & Grounds Dave Sieja and Secretary Diane Collins.

Absent were Range Director Rick Dupon and League Director Steve Turchanik.

Ted Bayne presented the membership with all of the By-Law changes and explained how the new Family Membership worked. After much discussion, we voted on all of the changes. There were 33 yes votes. 0 no votes. 

Dave Carlisle talked about Tip Up Town and how he needs help with selling the raffle tickets. He also let everyone know what was in the prize package and the cost was around $1,200.00  to purchase everything. He also said that Tip up Town was 2 days the first weekend but only 1 the second weekend. Also they will have 2 big tents one for the beer and one for vendors.

VICE PRESIDENT DON COLLINS:

Rifle hunting season starts on Friday November 15, 2019. Remember no baiting.

Sight in Days are November 13 and 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. He asked everyone to please help out and there was a sign up sheet on the back table. He also said that spotting scopes were needed.

PRESIDENT TOM GREGORY:

He said the fence was coming along good and all of the posts were in. The new gate down at the lower ranges will be put in tomorrow.

He talked about stepping down from being President and how busy this year was.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR JOHN DELANEY:

John introduced 5 new members and 2 new family members. They are Larry and Diane Lunau, Jerry Tice, Peggy Kish and Mike Bliss. New family members are Judy Gregory and Charlotte McLain. They said a few words about themselves. Kip Smith makes a motion to accept them as new members. Tom Oakey seconds it. All agree.

President Tom Gregory tells everyone we will now vote for Board Members.

Patty Gross is nominated for League Director. Loree Delaney makes a motion to accept her as League Director. John Brusseau seconds it. All agree.

Ted Bayne is nominated for Range Director. Gary VonSchmittou makes a motion to accept him as Range Director. Patty Gross seconds it. All agree.

Don Collins is nominated for President. Rich Jobson makes a motion to accept him as President. Dutch Korbijn seconds it. All agree.

Diane Collins is nominated for Secretary. Bob Wood makes a motion to accept her as Secretary. Loree Delaney seconds it. All agree.

Dave Sieja is nominated for Building & Grounds Director. Dave Gentry makes a motion to accept him as Building & Grounds Director. Brad McLain seconds it. All agree.

He thanked everyone for volunteering their time.

OLD BUSINESS

Kip Smith said that John Delaney and himself would like to teach another Action Pistol 101 class in Feburary. They will put out a sign up sheet in January.

NEW BUSINESS

Patty Gross reminded everyone  that the Christmas Party is at th Roscommon Township Hall on December 7, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. The Club provides the meat and everyone brings a dish to pass.

Gary VonSchmittou talked about the classes he would interested in teaching or helping to teach. They are Hunters Safety, Basic Pistol, PPIH, PPOH and CPL. Sign up sheets were on the table in the back.

MEMBER MEETING MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 7, 2019

Meeting starts at 6:59 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge were recited.

Absent were Treasurer Gavin Carnegie, Range Director Rick Dupon, Publicity Director Brian Dawson, and League Director Steve Turchanik.

SECRETARY DIANE COLLINS:

Had roll call for the Board of Directors.

VICE PRESIDENT DON COLLINS:

He talked about having a Hunter Safety class in April 2020. Gary VonSchmittou will help him and they asked if anyone is interested to let them know. Gary said members of the Harrison Sportsmen’s Club are willing to volunteer also. 

He said that as most people know, bow season is happening now until November 15, 2019.

BUILDING & GROUNDS DAVE SIEJA:

Dave said that Brad McLain is building the walls to close in the rifle range for Sight in Days to make it warmer for everyone.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR JOHN DELANEY:

John introduced one new member. He is Dennis Beebe. Dennis said a few words about himself. Rich Holmes makes a motion to accept him as a member. Rich Jobson seconds it. All approve.

He talked about the changes to the By-Laws from the Family Membership By-Law Comittee. We will vote on the changes at the next Membership Meeting.

PRESIDENT TOM GREGORY:

Tom let everyone know that the Michigan State Police is going to use the ranges on October 23, 30, and November 6, 2019.

We are still looking for volunteers for Junior Rifle.

Elections are next month. He talked about how important it is to volunteer your time.

The fence estimate was brought up to everyone. It is $12,202.00. The Board has approved putting in the fence for that amount. After much discussion it was determined that the Members want the Board to talk to a lawyer and the insurance company. We said we will do that this week.

He thanked everyone for painting the building.

Dave Carlisle is going to have the tickets for the Tip Up Town raffle done so we can sell them at Sight in Days. He is also getting our logo on the canopy for Tip Up Town done at Arnies.

Reminded the ladies that our last Ladies Practice would be on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. sign in and 3:00 p.m. start.

TREASURER, GAVIN CARNEGIE:

HLSC Balance Sheet Report of July 31, 2019. Total current assets $50,268.79. Chase checking $5,731.00. Building Fund $35,741.37. NCACU prime share raffle $26.31. NCACU share draft raffle $8,770.11. The complete report is available to club members and posted on the bulletin board.

VICE PRESIDENT, DON COLLINS:

Bow season opens October 1, 2019 for deer.

Bear season opens in Red Oak, Baldwin and Gladwin on September 15, 2019.

He wanted everyone to know that the bears are shot up again on the Rifle Range.

Also people are not signing in when they are using the outside ranges. He stressed how important it is that people do this.

Also he stressed how important it is not to lock the gate on the lower ranges when you are in there using it and to drive around and check to see if anyone is in there before you leave.

He let everyone know that we would be putting up the sign up sheet for Board positions open in November. They are President, League Director, Range Director, Building & Grounds and Secretary.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR, JOHN DELANEY:

We now have 250 members.

He introduced 9 new members. They were Justin Blanchard, Brian Gedeon MD, James Herman, Howard Holmes, Michael Major, Christopher Matulewicz, Mark Mayoros, Lorna Myers and Dave Nelson. We also had a reinstated member Christopher Nieman. Each applicant said a few words about themselves. Rich Jobson makes a motion to accept them as members. Stan Wallington seconds it. All approve.

PRESIDENT, TOM GREGORY:

He talked to the Members about replacing the fence on the south side of the property. He let them know approximately how much it would cost from the driveway to the corner, from the corner past the gate on the lower ranges to the end of the property. It also included replacing the lower range gate. After much discussion, the Members would also like a nicer fence across the front with another gate across the driveway. Vice President Don Collins and Dave Sieja will get more estimates.

OLD BUSINESS:

Tom Gregory let everyone know we still need someone to take over Junior Rifle. Tom Oakey talked to the Members about how Junior Rifle works and how it needs someone in charge to keep the program going. 

Tom Gregory is having Diane Collins disconnect the phone in the clubhouse.

Gary VonSchmittou wants to have a Women on Target class at our club. Also he wants to help put together a Hunter’s Safety class in April 2020.

NEW BUSINESS:

Gary Sikora wanted to let all of the Veterens know that on the first Thursday of every month at Blodgett Airport there is  free coffee and donuts.

Also there is a free pheasant hunt for Veterens and Law Enforcement at Tails a Waggin in Marion. Dates are September 27 and 28, 2019. He was trying to organize anyone interested in going. 

Rhonda Lemma asked that everyone take a moment on 9/11 to reflect on what happened. 

Chris Nieman reminded everyone about Project Appleseed on September 21 and 22, 2019.

Talked about the Ladies Practice League and how she would be keeping it going. Said she couldn’t make it to August’s practice and Tom Gregory said he would run it.

VICE PRESIDENT, DON COLLINS

2019 Doe Permits: you can apply now through August 15, 2019. You can get 1 Public Land or 1 Private Land permit. Check the website for quotas established for each Deer Management Unit. 16 years of age and under can buy Anterless permits over the counter July 15, 2019 through August 15, 2019. Leftover licenses will go on sale September 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

He told the membership that the club had purchased a new New Holland tractor and had sold the old one to Dusty Bowman from Motor Mart.

Sunday August 11, 2019 is the next SCSA Match. It’s 1:00 p.m. sign up and 1:30 p.m. start.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR, JOHN DELANEY

He said we now have 238 members.

He introduced 1 new member. He is Mark Saxton. He said a few words about himself.  Brad McLain makes a motion to accept him as a member. Rich Jobson seconds it. All agree.

The Family Membership By-Law committee has it’s first meeting on August 15, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.

PRESIDENT, TOM GREGORY

He said we need someone to take over Junior Rifle. Tom Oakey has been doing it for many years and will no longer be able to. He said he would help whoever takes over.

We really need someone to take over the  Publicity Directors position. If anyone is interested please let one of the Board Members know.

Tom said he wants to dedicate the Ladies Practice to Liz Arreola and call it Liz’s Ladies Practice. Patti Gross made a motion to dedicate it to her. Gary VonSchmittou seconds it. All agree

OLD BUSINESS

Someone asked about a bigger sign for silhouettes. 

President Tom Gregory brought up that someone who was terminated from the club, came and shot in a USPSA match on July 21, 2019. It was discussed at a Board meeting and determined that he was not allowed on club property and it was stated in our By-Laws that he was not allowed on club property. The Board sent him a letter stating this.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Gary Von Schmittou said that the Harrison Sportsmen’s Club is having a Hunter Safety class on Saturday August 24, 2019.
