What is USPSA?

USPSA is a shooting sports competition that is a combination of speed and accuracy. Each stage you will be given a set of physical challenges to overcome to finish the stage as fast as you can. Winter USPSA Matches

USPSA Matches will be held indoors at the HLSC Clubhouse during the Winter months. Setup begins the preceding Friday night at 7:00 PM. The match takes place on the Saturday (Dates below) with Flight 1 starting with Sign-in at 10:00, the Shooter’s Meeting at 10:45AM, with Shooting starting at 11:00 AM. For Flight 2 – Sign-in at 1PM; Shooters Meeting at 1:45PM, with shooting starting at 2:00 PM.

Match Fees and Info:

  • Match Fees
    • HLSC Members, Friends and Family: $10
    • Non-Members: $20
    • Additional Gun +$5
    • RO’s can receive at $5 discount.
    • WORK HOURS for match set up and reduced match rate TBD by Match Director 
  • Registration: Pre-registration is encouraged when possible to help with planning. Walk-ups are subject to squad availability. Sign up on Practiscore or see Chuck Gafner.

Weekly Summer USPSA Matches

The Summer USPSA Matches runs weekly on Wednesdays, from May 6th through September 30th, 2026.

  • Setup: 2:00 PM
  • Sign-Up: 5:00 PM
  • Shooting Starts: 5:30 PM
  • Cost: $5 per HLSC member shooter, $3 per family member, $5 per guest, $8 per non-member, $3 per gun for shooters shooting more than one gun.
  • Stages: 4 total stages with one as a classifier
  • Rounds: Plan to shoot 200+ rounds 
  • Divisions: All USPSA divisions welcome — production, carry optics, open, limited, etc. Let us know if you need clarification about divisions.

Summer USPSA Matches at the HLSC:

In addition to our weekly Matches, we’ll host two full USPSA Matches in 2026 at the Houghton Lake Sportsmen Club range:

  • June 27, 2026
  • August 22, 2026

Each of these matches will feature 6 stages total, which includes 2 classifier stages. Expect an exciting, challenging course layout designed to test accuracy, speed, and movement. Bring plenty of ammo and be ready for a great day of shooting.

Match Format

  • Stages: 6 stages with 2 classifiers
  • Rounds: 300+ rounds for matches
  • Divisions: All USPSA divisions welcome — production, carry optics, open, limited, etc. Let us know if you need clarification about divisions.

    • HLSC Members, Friends, Family: $15
    • Non-Members: $25
    • Additional Gun: +$5

What to Bring

  • USPSA appropriate handgun & magazines
  • 300+ rounds of ammunition
  • Eye and ear protection (earmuffs or earplugs + safety glasses) — required
  • Range bag with tools, extra batteries, holster, magazine pouches, hat, sunscreen, water

Safety & Range Rules

Safety is our top priority. All matches begin with a mandatory safety briefing. Follow Range Officer (RO) instructions at all times. Unsafe firearms handling or failure to follow RO directions may result in disqualification and removal from the match.

Helpful Notes

  • Expect to be on your feet and moving during stages — wear comfortable footwear.
  • Classifier stages are a great way to check or improve your USPSA classification.
  • New to USPSA? Let us know at check-in and we’ll do our best to squad you with experienced shooters who can help.
