Membership Information
The HLSC offers two types of Membership – Individual or Family. Both options have an annual volunteer ‘Work Hour’ requirements which are detailed below. If the Work Hour requirements are not fulfilled during the Membership Calendar year, there will be an additional fee required at the time of renewal.
All new members are required to attend a Safety Seminar & Orientation before a membership card will be issued. There is usually a Seminar scheduled the Tuesday after our monthly Membership Meeting, typically at 4:00 p.m. in our clubhouse. Please check the website calendar for dates and times. We will go over the safety rules and club rules with a Power Point presentation which lasts about 1 hour and then an outdoor range tour will be given weather permitting. The Membership Director or other qualified HLSC members may be able to accommodate a custom safety seminar scheduled if needed. Contact the Membership Director for details.
New Membership Applications, Renewal Applications & Reinstatement Applications may be turned in during any monthly Membership Meeting. New Members & Renewing Members are asked to arrive at the clubhouse at 6:00 p.m. to complete the paperwork and pay the annual dues.
Bringing a Guest to the HLSC:
Members may bring Guests with them to enjoy the HLSC. Any individual Guest to the HLSC is permitted up to 3 times per year. Guests are non-members which may or may not be relatives to the member or non-minor children – Spouses and minor children are not considered Guests and can accompany a member any number of times per year. In short, if your non-minor children, your buddy or your cousin wants to shoot at the HLSC more than 3 times per year, they’ll need to join. Guests must fill out a Hold-Harmless agreement for every visit to the HLSC. These forms are available with every Sign-In book at the HLSC Ranges and Clubhouse.
Individual Membership:
An Individual Membership allows the Member full access to the HLSC Facilities in accordance to the Club By-Laws, Club, and Range Rules. A Member may bring their Spouse and/or minor children/grand children to the HLSC an unlimited amount of times per year but the member must be with them at all times.
Individual Membership entitles the Member to vote at Membership meetings provided they are eligible to vote (Member longer than 6 months) and in good standing (dues paid). Contact the Membership Director for detailed dues information. Print a copy of the Individual Membership Form.
Family Membership:
A Family Membership allows the Member and a Spouse to both be members of the HLCS at a lower cost than two individual memberships. The main difference between the Family and Individual Membership is that a Family member may attend individually. For example, Husband can use the HLSC Facilities without the Wife present, or vice versa, Wife can use the HLSC without the Husband present. Both Family members in this example are entitled to vote at Membership meetings provided they are eligible to vote (Member longer than 6 months) and in good standing (dues paid). Contact the Membership Director for detailed dues information. Print a copy of the Family Membership Form.
Membership Renewal:
Annual renewals are sent out by the Membership Director via USPS mail. Please contact the Membership Director with any questions about your renewal. The HLSC is aware that occasionally renewal information is not received. If you are expecting a renewal and did not receive a notice in the mail, contact the Membership Director.
Applications and dues can be mailed in to the club’s Membership Director:
- Houghton Lake Sportsmen’s Club
- P.O. Box 463 Houghton Lake, MI 48629

Membership Work Hours Requirements:
- Individual Membership:
- 10 Hours per membership year.
- Family Membership:
- 15 Hours per membership year.
Both membership types have an annual “Work Hours” requirement. The HLSC makes it very easy to meet these requirements by giving members and hour credit for any monthly Membership Meetings they attend, taking home trash bags and any other time spent helping out the HLSC in other ways. Work Hours must be reported in order to receive credit for your efforts. You must fill out a Work Hours form and turn it in to the Membership Director to receive credit for your hours.
