A SUMMARY OF THE MINUTES FROM MONTHLY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. We said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board members present were President Don Collins, Treasurer Dave Carlisle, Publicity Director Brian Dawson, Membership Director John Delaney, Building & Grounds Dave Sieja, Range Director Ted Bayne, League Director Patty Gross and Secretary Diane Collins.

Guest present was Tom Gregory.

Guest Tom Gregory told us that the Basic Rifle class will be on Sunday December 15, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

He also told us that there were accounts with credit cards out for Wild’s True Value Hardware, Gilroy’s Hardware, Family Fare and Home Depot. These accounts need to be closed and reopened with the new members who need them.

AGENDA REPORTS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

1. Treasurer Dave Carlisle:

Dave let everyone know that there were over $14,000.00 in discrepancies when he took over as Treasurer. He has found most of the money, the Bank is ok now and so is the Credit Union.

He sold 99 tickets for the Tip up Town raffle at Sight in Days. He asked the Board to approve $300.00 worth of tickets to donate for the Christmas Party. Dave Sieja Makes a motion to approve $300.00 worth of tickets for the Christmas Party. Ted seconds it. All approve.

He also wants the Board to think about getting a radiant heater for the club.

2. Building & Grounds Dave Sieja:

He closed the last port-a-john and is going to lock them all up.

We need to find a place to store the new portable sign we just bought.

They tried out a pratice run for USPSA Action Pistol inside on Sunday November 24, 2019. It went well and everyone had a good time. He will do another practice round on Saturday December 14, 2019. Then he would like to do sanctioned shoots for 4 months starting in January 2020.

Ted asked Dave to figure out some kind of light at the end if the driveway for when members come at night.

3. League Director Patty Gross:

She asked for $100.00 for a deposit on the hall for the Christmas Party. She also needs $50.00 for the ladies at the Christmas Party and it will be raffled off in envelopes of $10.00 each. She will pick up the chicken for the Christmas Party. She also asked Secretary Diane Collins to send out an email to the membership as a reminder of the Christmas Party. She will email Diane what to put in the email. 

She wanted to know if we had a list of all of the RSO’s. We do not, but we should get one. We also need to talk to Gary VonSchmittou about having another RSO class.

She also needs a list of all of the 2020 Leagues.

4. Publicity Director Brian Dawson:

Brian says he is locked out of the club Web Page. Everything he tries he just keeps getting rejected. After much discussion it was determined that we are going to have to make a new Web Page. John Delaney said that he would help with that.

5. Membership Director John Delaney:

John said we now have 269 members.

He would like to have the Action 101 class on February 4, 2020 at 5:59 p.m. Ted Bayne makes a motion to have the class. Dave Sieja seconds it. All approve.

He would also like to get the program Office Pro 2016 for $75.99. Patty Gross makes a motion for the club to buy it for him. Brian Dawson seconds it. All approve.

6. Range Director Ted Bayne:

Ted and Brad McLain closed in the west end of the building on the Rifle Range. He replaced all of the stands. He would like to replace the benches on the Bullseye Range. The turning targets are not working properly. He will take a look at them again in the spring.

We need to send the insurance company a copy of our By-Laws.

We made about $530.00 for Sight in Days. Next year he would like to see everyone who helps with Sight in Days take a short class beforehand so they know what to do.

7. Secretary Diane Collins:

She explained that for some reason she is having a hard time sending emails. This just started happening. Ted Bayne explained that this is the Publicity Directors job, but Diane said she would continue to do it until Brian gets familiar with everything and can take it back. Everyone agreed to be patient with Diane sending emails.

8. President Don Collins:

Don told everyone that he was informed that the club taxes had not been paid in 2 years. Him and  Dave Carlisle went to our tax guy Bill Waggoner. Dave collected all of the paperwork needed and they have been signed and turned in. He also informed us that Bill Waggoner will do an audit in April. He said anyone who does anything for us from now on who is not a corporation has to fill out a W-9.

He asked if everyone had seen the fence and if they were happy with it. He also asked if we needed more No Tresspassing signs on it. We all agreed we did and Dave Sieja said that in the spring he would make more No Tresspassing signs for us at a good price.

We discussed who was on our club accounts, who needs to be taken off and who needs to be added.

He asked the Board for a laptop for the President. He went to several places to look and found most in the price range of $600.00 to $800.00. John Delaney makes a motion for the club to buy the President a laptop. Patty Gross seconds it. All agree. 

We had a discussion of buying internet for the club.

President Don Collins asks if anyone has anything else to bring up.

Dave Carlisle makes a motion to adjourn. Dave Sieja seconds it. All agree.

MONDAY OCTOBER 28, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. We said the Pledge of Allegiance.
Board members present were: President Tom Gregory, Vice President Don Collins, Publicity Director
Brian Dawson, Membership Director John Delaney, Treasurer Gavin Carnegie, Building & Grounds Dave
Sieja and Secretary Diane Collins.
Absent were Range Director Rick Dupon and League Director Steve Turchanik.
Guests present were: Loree Delaney, Dave Carlisle and Gary VonSchmittou.

AGENDA REPORTS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

Membership Director John Delaney:

He handed out the new Membership form so everyone could see what it would look like.
We talked about if a couple has separate memberships and wants to make it a family
membership, that they could get a credit towards their membership. Everyone agreed that a
credit would be the way to handle it.

President Tom Gregory:

Tom said that we are going to have Jr. Rifle. Two people stepped up to take over. They are
Keith (no one knows the last name) and his father.
· The fence is being worked on, most of the posts are in. We are giving Milner Fence half down
$6,000.00
· He had Dave Carlisle talk about Tip-UP Town. They are making quite a few changes. The dates
will be the January 18 and 19, 2020 for the first weekend and the second weekend only January
25, 2020. Also there will be two big tents, one for the beer tent and one for vendors. Hopefully we
can get inside the one tent. Also they are giving out 1,800 tickets to school kids. For our raffle he
is getting the fisherman’s package like we had last year. Don Collins makes a motion to give
Dave $1,500.00 to buy the stuff. Dave Sieja seconds it. All agree.
· Tom brought up that Gavin Carnegie approached him and due to health reasons he needs to
resign. Diane Collins read the resignation letter to everyone. Tom asked Dave Carlisle if he would
take over for Gavin and he agreed. John Delaney makes a motion for Dave Carlisle to take over
the Treasurers position for Gavin Carnegie on November 4, 2019. Dave Sieja seconds it. All
agree.

Building and Grounds Dave Sieja:

Dave brought up getting a portable sign again to announce some of our events. He was looking
at one that was 36 x 48, plastic and can be lettered on both sides. It comes with 421 – 5 inch
letters, numbers and symbols. Don Collins brought up that he should call the township first to
make sure we can have it. The cost is $ 345.45. John Delaney makes a motion for him to buy it.
Don Collins seconds it. All agree.
· He brought up having USPSA matches inside in the winter. Everyone was in favor but first they
wanted him to set up a couple of demo’s to make sure it was going to work out alright befor we
make a commitment. He agreed to set something up the end of November.

Publicity Director Brian Dawson:

He called the Houghton Lake Resorter last week to advertise Jr. Rifle. He’s hoping they might
come out and take pictures.

Guest Gary VonSchmittou talked about Hunter Safety classes. The date was set for April 11, 2020. He
will bring it up at the membership meeting to see who is interested and will bring a sign up sheet. He
would also be interested in teaching a couple of classes: Personal Protection and Basic Pistol.
Guest Loree Delaney asked if she could head up a committee to organize who brings snacks to the membership meetings. Polly Waggoner said she would help. Everyone agreed that it would be a great thing since Liz Arreola is no longer here to do it. Don Collins makes a motion for Loree to head up a committee for snacks. John Delaney seconds it. All agree.

HOUGHTON LAKE SPORTSMEN’S CLUB BOARD MINUTESOF MONDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 5:29 p.m. We said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board Members present were: President Tom Gregory, Vice President Don Collins, Membership Director John Delaney, Publicity Director Brian Dawson, Range Director Rick Dupon, Building and Grounds Dave Sieja and Secretary Diane Collins. 

Absent were Treasurer Gavin Carnegie and League Director Steve Turchanik.

Guests present were Ted Bayne, Loree Delaney, Patricia Gross and George Mika.

AGENDA REPORTS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

1. Membership Director John Delaney:

John talked about the Family Membership and By-Laws. He showed everyone what the proposed changes were. Rick Dupon made a motion to accept the changes. Dave Sieja seconds it. All agree. 

We will hold off changing the HLSC brochure until after the first of the year.

2. Range Director Rick Dupon:

Rick talked about Sight in Days. We need to build the walls for the pavillion. Dave Sieja can build the walls after October 19, 2019. We will put up a sign up sheet at the Membership meeting for help building the walls and for volunteers for food.

3. Publicity Director Brian Dawson:

Brian asked us about advertising on place mats at restaurants in the area. It would cost $155.00 for 55,000 mats. We decided to do an ad for Sight in Days now and the Gun Show for later. Rick Dupon makes a motion to do this advertising. Dave Sieja seconds it. All agree.

4. President Tom Gregory:

Tom asked Patricia Gross if she was doing the Christmas Party this year. She said yes, her and her crew were going to do it again this year.

He told us the Michigan State Police got a hold of him and want to use the range on October 23, October 30, and November 6, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dave Sieja makes a motion to let them use the range on these dates and times. Diane Collins seconds it. All agree.

He also told us the estimate from Milner Fence for a vinyl fence across the front with a sliding gate. With the other estimate we got from him for the lower range, it would be around $20,000.00. Ted Bayne came up with another idea, fencing in the property but not the front or the parking lot. Tom will get another estimate from Milner Fence for that way.

He said we also need a work day for storing Steel and Action Pistol.

President Tom Gregory asked if anyone had anything else to bring up.

HOUGHTON LAKE SPORTSMEN’S CLUB BOARD MINUTES OF MONDAY AUGUST 26, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. We said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board Members present were: President Tom Gregory, Vice President Don Collins, Treasurer Gavin Carnegie, Building & Grounds Dave Sieja, Range Director Rick Dupon, Membership Director John Delaney and Secretary Diane Collins.

Absent was League Director Steve Turchanik.

Guest present was Brian Dawson.

AGENDA REPORTS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

1. Membership Director John Delaney:

He gave a short report from the Family Membership By-Law Committee. It’s not complete yet and when it is, he will present it to the Board and the Membership.

He told us we need to sign the contract with the Knights of Columbus for next years Gun Show. Tom Gregory said he would call to get that taken care of. It was decided that the Gun Show would be April 4, 2020.

2. President Tom Gregory

We had 2 prospects for Publicity Director. Brian Dawson and Danny Renberg. Rick Dupon makes a motion to accept Brian Dawson as Publicity Director. Dave Sieja seconds it. All agree.

He brought up putting up a fence from the driveway around the corner to the gate into the lower ranges. Dave Sieja will give us an estimate and we will also get an estimate from Milner Fence.

He brought up painting the outside of the club house. After much discussion it was decided that Tom would bring it up at the next Membership Meeting to see what kind of interest there was for Members to paint it. Dave Sieja will get the paint on sale from Home Depot. We might have to wait until spring to paint it. 

3. Range Director Rick Dupon

Wants to know about end of year cleanup. There isn’t anything out to put back at this time.

He wants to partially frame in the rifle range for Sight in Days. He makes a motion to spend up to $800 for materials. Gavin Carnegie seconds it. All agree.

4. Secretary Diane Collins

She brought up how no one is showing up for Liz’s Ladies Practice League. Our last one is the 3rd Monday in September. She will bring it up at the Membership Meeting to see if we should continue for next year.

Tom asked if anyone had anything else to bring up. Everyone congratulated Brian Dawson on his new position. 

Diane Collins makes a motion to adjourn. Don Collins seconds it. All agree.

July 29, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. We said the Pledge of Allegiance and had a moment of silence
for Liz Arreola.
Board Members present were: President Tom Gregory, Range Director Rick Dupon, Membership
Director John Delaney, Vice President Don Collins, Treasurer Gavin Carnegie, Building & Grounds Dave
Sieja and Secretary Diane Collins.
Absent were League Director Steve Turchanik.
Guests present were Loree Delaney, Ted Bayne, Earl LaVasseur and Rich Holmes.
Louie Arreola brought back everything that Liz used for the Publicity Directors position and thanked
everyone for the flowers and coming to the service.
AGENDA REPORTS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
1. Vice President Don Collins:
· Don brought up that the club needs another router box for the Steel League. Rich Holmes spoke
up and said that he had already purchased one at Walmart for $40.00 and donated it to the club.
· He told us that he had asked Dusty Bowman from Motor Mart if he wanted to purchase the old
tractor awhile ago, and said he asked him again if he wanted it and how much he would give us,
and he said yes and he would give us $700.00. Ted Bayne had also shown interest in purchasing
it so Tom Gregory told him if he wanted to give the club $700.00 it was his because he was a member. He declined. Gavin Carnegie made a motion to sell it to Motor Mart for $700.00. Rick
Dupon Seconds it. All agree.
2. Membership Director John Delaney:
· He brought up that a terminated member, Art Gonzalez, came on club property to shoot in a
USPSA Match. It says in our By-Laws that a terminated member is banned from the property.
After much discussion it was determined that this will not happen again. Another letter will be sent
to Art Gonzalez stating this. John Delaney makes a motion to send a letter to Art Gonzalez. Dave
Sieja seconds it. 5 agree 1 abstains.

3. President Tom Gregory:
· Brought up that the backstops on indoor Range 2 need to be replaced. Also the blowers in the
indoor ranges need maintenence.
· He thanked Earl and Barb LaVasseur for putting rocks in the driveway to fill the holes.
· He asked if anyone had anything else to bring up. Diane Collins asked what we were going to do
to fill the Publicity Directors position. It was stated that we need to send out an email to the
members. John Delaney said that he will do it for now. We need to recruit someone as soon as
possible.
Dave Sieja makes a motion to adjourn. Rick Dupon seconds it. All agree.
